Cape Le Grand, Western Australia

Cape Le Grand is a national park situated in Western Australia and is in my opinion one of the most beautiful places down under. As you can see from the image below the sands are white and the ocean a beautiful turquoise. We drove to Cape Le Grand from Esperance, only leaving Esperance a few days after the tragic bush fires started. We were told by the lovely couple whose farm we were staying on that you can do so by road or by beach. We chose the beach and it was the best decision as we had some serious fun with it.

As long as you have 4 wheel drive you can take it down on the beach, we did it in Josephine below and she was like a dream. We probably only saw two other cars on the whole beach and the drive is about 20km – you pretty much have the whole strip to yourself.

We stopped at Lucky Bay which is within the national park. There was a lot of construction going on here which was a shame as the camping sites were all closed. On top of that the fly situation was out of hand and off the windy beach you found your face and body getting covered by them and they are relentless.

What is special about Lucky Bay is that kangaroos actually hop across the beach and I found the water to be a lot more turquoise than the other beaches. Apparently, the kangaroos are mostly on the beach at dawn and dusk so unfortunately I did not have the pleasure of catching them on the actual beach but this is definitely something I want to see in the future. Here is a lazy kangaroo pictured below relaxing in the shade.

I hope you enjoyed my post on Cape Le Grand National Park and Lucky Bay. If anyone has had time to visit other parts of the park I would love to hear about it!
