House of Small Wonder is one of Berlin’s hidden breakfast gems, tucked away in Mitte, the heart of the city. This urban greenhouse serves as a sanctuary from the hectic and grungy life of Berlin. On top it offers the most delicious and inspiring menu. East meets West with Japanese comfort food and freshly baked pastries, the organic local ingredients adding a warm-hearted touch.
For me, visiting House of Small Wonder was like escaping Berlin and coming home. The smiling staff greet you like an old friend (something very rare in Berlin) and the eclectic mix of cutlery and furniture add to the cafes homely charm. Breakfast, brunch, and lunch are the orders of the day with something for everyone.
What we ate
A sweet-tooth to a fault, I chose the Homemade Granola & Fruit with Greek Yogurt. My friend had the Croissant French Toast (of course, we shared). We finished off with Walnut Cookies and Avocado Chocolate Mousse. The mousse was vegan and gluten-free, not to mention delicious. For coffee lovers I can highly recommend the famous Matcha Latte from Japan. Made with ground green tea leaves, the barista artistically signs the top of all the coffees with the cutest designs! I loved the variety of flavours in both dishes. The croissants were especially fun to devour because of the accompanied whipped cream and maple syrup.
For something Japanese inspired the all-day lunch provides a selection of delicious options to choose from. You can check their mouth-watering menu here.
The iconic staircase at House of Small Wonder is proving to be famous on Instagram and it’s easy to see why! The entranceway leads up to the warm and intimate cafe, like a little hideaway in the city. Make sure you don’t miss one of Berlin’s most Instagram worthy moments!
